In 2022, ESMOD Jakarta underwent a significant transformation, evolving into Politeknik Kreatif Indonesia (Poltekindo) as part of its commitment to advancing creative education in Indonesia. This change marked a strategic shift from a single-focus fashion school to a broader, more dynamic institution that embraces the full spectrum of the creative industry, from fashion design and creative business to other innovative disciplines. While maintaining the strong legacy and educational excellence of the ESMOD global network, Politeknik Kreatif Indonesia now operates under national higher education standards, offering applied bachelor’s degrees and expanded opportunities for collaboration, research, and industry integration. This transformation reflects a vision to empower the next generation of creative professionals who are ready to lead in both local and global arenas.
The foundation for this transformation lies in the rich history of ESMOD itself. Founded in 1841 by Alexis Lavigne, a visionary inventor credited with creating the mannequin and supple measuring tape, ESMOD is the world’s first fashion school. From its earliest days, ESMOD set new standards in fashion education with patented design methods that revolutionized the industry. Lavigne’s pioneering spirit shaped a school that blends tradition with innovation, a philosophy that continues to define the ESMOD network around the world.
This enduring legacy fuels Politeknik Kreatif Indonesia’s vision to empower the next generation of creative professionals, ready to lead in both local and global arenas.
In 1996, Ms. Hartini Hartarto recognized the burgeoning talent and growing fashion interest among Indonesian youth. To provide them with a platform for professional fashion education and to enable them to compete on a global stage, she introduced ESMOD to Jakarta. This pioneering move laid the foundation for a dynamic journey in the realm of fashion education. Nowadays, ESMOD Jakarta is under the guidance of Ms. Maya Dewi Hartarto.
This legacy continues under the leadership of Ms. Maya Dewi Hartarto, as ESMOD Jakarta evolved into Politeknik Kreatif Indonesia in 2022, a broader institution that expands beyond fashion to encompass the full spectrum of the creative industry. With this transformation, Ms. Maya carries forward her mother’s vision while guiding the next generation of creative professionals into a new era of innovation and opportunity.
